The Gulf of Guinea is a basin bordered by the coasts of 19 States facing various maritime threats. In order to fight effectively against these threats and to preserve the economic and institutional stability of the coastal countries, it is essential to collect, enrich and disseminate maritime information collected by digital means or obtained through human sources, in order to better control the risks of trafficking at sea in the area.
The presentations of the experts will aim to raise awareness of the collection, analysis, enrichment and sharing of maritime information in order to develop a culture of information exchange, whether or not it is classified.
The YARIS platform will be presented as a structuring tool for the exchange of information between maritime surveillance actors, with its functionalities for targeting vessels, building databases and exchanging information between operational centers in charge of coordinating actions to combat fraud committed at sea.
In order to illustrate the conferences, case studies related to drug trafficking will be proposed as well as a presentation of the Regional Clearance System whose use in terms of maritime targeting has enabled to thwart many cases of drug trafficking in the Caribbean basin.
