Oil spill response at sea and on the shoreline (OMI 2)

March 31-31, 2021 (Part 1) and Apris 13-15, 2021 (Part 2)

Duration

4 days (2 days of distance learning and 2.5 days on site)

  • Maritime or on land authorities
  • Personnel from administrations, local governments and ports
  • Oil industry personnel
  • Shipping company personnel

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE CONTENT OF THE TRAINING

This training will be delivered in two parts.

 The first session will be delivered remotely and will cover the following topics:

  • General principles and main response strategies;
  • Behaviour of oil spilled in the environment;
  • Response at sea:

– Aerial observation, monitoring of slicks and quantification of pollution at sea;

– Dispersion ;

– In situ burning ;

– Containment and recovery;

  • Crisis management:

– Contingency planning and incident management;

– Crisis communication and media;

– Compensation.

  • A second session will be delivered in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, and will focus on the following topics:

Response on the shoreline:

– Survey and assessment of polluted sites;

– Shoreline clean-u;

– Worksite organisation;

– Waste management.

 These modules will be completed by tutorials, feedbacks on real cases and a full day of practical exercises and field trials.

 

PEDAGOGICAL METHOD

 The training will be sanctioned on the last day with a knowledge test.

Only complete applications corresponding to the target audience of the training are sent to ISMI for validation.

The application file, composed of the following documents, must be returned to the Defense attaché of the French Embassy in your country:

A copy of your passport. The validity of the passport must cover a period of at least one month after the last day of training.
